~~What's Left Of Me Review and Giveaway~~OVER

What's Left of Me (The Hybrid Chronicles, #1)

What's Left Of Me (The Hybrid Chronicles #1)
Author:  Kat Zhang
Published by:  HarperCollins
Pages:  352

Synopsis:  Eva and Addie started out the same way as everyone else—two souls woven together in one body, taking turns controlling their movements as they learned how to walk, how to sing, how to dance. But as they grew, so did the worried whispers. Why aren’t they settling? Why isn’t one of them fading? The doctors ran tests, the neighbors shied away, and their parents begged for more time. Finally Addie was pronounced healthy and Eva was declared gone. Except, she wasn’t . . .

For the past three years, Eva has clung to the remnants of her life. Only Addie knows she’s still there, trapped inside their body. Then one day, they discover there may be a way for Eva to move again. The risks are unimaginable-hybrids are considered a threat to society, so if they are caught, Addie and Eva will be locked
away with the others. And yet . . . for a chance to smile, to twirl, to speak, Eva will do anything.

I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars

My review and thoughts:  While this book starts out a little slow, it really packs a powerful punch and ends strong.

Imagine a world where everyone is born with two souls in one body.  Eventually over the years one fades away while the other soul takes total control of the body.  What happens when this doesn't happen?  What happens when you don't ever settle?  You have to live a secret life and pray that no one finds out because bad things happen when the wrong people find out.  This is what is happening to Eva/Addie.

Eva/Addie always has to be careful.  Never having close friends.  Lying to her parents.  Because if someone finds out, you will be taken away.  The ones who are taken away never come back.  When Eva/Addie let their guard down for a split second, everything changes.

I love dystopian, science fiction novels and this one did not disappoint.  I am very excited that there will be more books in this series.  You need to read this when you get the chance.

Now for the fun part.  I am giving away my ARC of What's Left Of Me.  I enjoyed this book a lot and would like to pass it onto someone else.  Please enter in the Rafflecopter below.  Due to shipping cost, this giveaway is U.S. only.

Congratulations Catie!

Congratulations Kaci!

~Butter Book Review~

Butter

Butter
By Erin Jade Lange
316 pages
Publication: 9/18/12 Bloomsbury

A lonely obese boy everyone calls "Butter" is about to make history. He is going to eat himself to death-live on the Internet-and everyone is invited to watch. When he first makes the announcement online to his classmates, Butter expects pity, insults, and possibly sheer indifference. What he gets are morbid cheerleaders rallying around his deadly plan. Yet as their dark encouragement grows, it begins to feel a lot like popularity. And that feels good. But what happens when Butter reaches his suicide deadline? Can he live with the fallout if he doesn't go through with his plans?

I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars

It took me a long time to get the courage to read this book. I thought it was going to be a tragic story and in many ways, it is. It is also a story about love and friendships and family.
Butter has always been the fat kid, spending his summer days at glorified fat camps, that always promised but never delivered. Always blaming everyone else for his problems. After a terrible incident at school; he decides to end it once and for all.
Instead of being bullied or being the school outcast, Butter starts to be one of the popular kids. Everyone knows his name and it feels really good. What will happen when his suicide deadline comes? Will Butter go through with it, or will he back out.
This book made me think a lot about my high school years and how I was treated and how I treated others. Some parts of this book was really hard to read. The part about how he gets the nickname Butter was awful. This book is so well written and I would encourage everyone to read it if you get the chance.

~~Safekeeping by Karen Hesse Review and Giveaway~~OVER

 Safekeeping

Pages:  304
Publication Date:  September 18, 2012
Published by:  Feiwel & Friends

Synopsis:  Radley just wants to get home to her parents in Vermont. While she was volunteering abroad, the American People's Party took power; the new president was assassinated; and the government cracked down on citizens. Travel restrictions are worse than ever, and when her plane finally lands in New Hampshire, Radley’s parents aren’t there.

Exhausted; her phone dead; her credit cards worthless: Radley starts walking.

I gave this book 3 out of 5 stars.

My review:  What would happen if the United States shut down?  The phones don't work, banks have shut down, no gas for transportation.  That is exactly what is happening in this book.

Radley is trying to get home to Vermont after spending time volunteering in Haiti.  She arrives in the States to a very different government system.  The president has been assassinated and nothing is working.  Unable to contact her parents and unable to use her credit card, Radley sets out on foot toward home.  What will she find when she gets there?  And is there any reason for her to stay?

Finding no answers at home, she sets out for the only safe place she has heard about, Canada.  This book follows her journey about self and survival.  She finds a friend in the most unlikely place.  When the truth comes out, Radley must reexamine her life and has to do what is most important for her.

While I did like this book, I did not like the writing style.  It dragged in parts where it did not need to.  I really enjoyed the black and white pictures throughout the book.  It gave more to the story.  Hopefully you will enjoy reading it!

I am going to give my wonderful readers a chance to win this book.  I am giving away my ARC copy.  Please fill out the Rafflecopter below if you would like to win.

Congratulations Rhea!
Congratulations Heather!
